In my teens, I started painting and writing. Pop Art, Op Art, and the beginnings of Conceptual Art were everywhere. The Japanese photo magazine ‘Provoke’ only published three issues, in 1968 and 1969. It was a rejection of many of the then-prevailing ‘global’ photographic norms. And it uniquely caught the 1960’s era of protest against American military bases on Japanese soil, Tokyo’s Narita airport extension and more.
